Michael Ray “Mike” Gentry, 58, of South Point, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 at his residence. Mike was born October 15, 1960 in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Charles Ray and Lillian Irene Hurn Gentry.
Mike was a true “Jack of all trades”. His knowledge of how things worked was exemplified his many talents. He was a master carpenter of finish work which is some of the most tedious work in carpentry. He loved turning wood on a wood lathe and sharing his designs with family and friends..He worked in rollback manufacturing for the recovery industry and also for specialty vehicles used in Operation Desert Storm. He also worked in the coal industry as a truck driver which was one of his most favorite jobs.
Those left to cherish his memory include his aunt Diane Price, uncle Jim Price, uncle & aunt Acey William Hurn and Julie Hurn, uncle & aunt Thomas Edward and Feather Hurn, his grandchildren he adored Ariane Winters, Alle Gentry, Raylon Gentry, Adrian Gentry, step-daughter Tonya Winters, nephew Travis Wayne Gentry, his caregivers Vicki Gentry and Helen Sargent, and a host of extended family and good friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held 7:00pm Tuesday Evening, May 21, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Chaplain Jimm Smedley.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm till service time at 7:00.
