Olivia Maddix

Olivia Mae Varney Maddix, 88, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Baptist Health Lexington with her loving family by her side.
She was born November 16, 1933 in Pike County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Troy and Bertie Kendrick Varney.
She was a student of life, loved learning and was an avid reader.
She was a graduate of Ashland High School in 1952, still joined classmates for lunch, known as “The Lunch Bunch” and Holzer Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.
As a nurse, she worked at the Holzer Hospital, Kings Daughters Hospital and Dr. Walter Williams, Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat Specialists.
Cooking was her language of love. She was an artist and avid crafter. Always looking for a great bargain and loved attending estate sales. She never met a stranger and will be remembered for her hugs and caring nature. She was an avid animal lover and is survived by Peppi. She attended the Freewill Baptist Church in South Ashland and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James “Jack” Maddix, one brother, Arlie Varney, three sisters, Versie Varney Blackburn, Maudie Varney Edwards and Gladys Varney, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Maddix Batt and husband Jay of Lebanon, KY; two grandchildren, Stephen (Kelsey Wright) Batt of Lexington and Rachel Batt of Lebanon; two great grandchildren, Campbell and Brady. She was also blessed by a second family, Gary Salmon, Kathlyn Salmon Combs, Elizabeth (Mike) Adams, Philip Leslie Salmon, Denise Salmon, Sarah Beth Griffey, Cheslee Thompson and David Thompson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Rose Hill Mausoleum by James Deal and Mike Adams officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at STEEN FUNERAL HOME, 13th STREET CHAPEL.
