Reece Spry, 88, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland. Reece was born November 20, 1929 in Logan, West Virginia, a son of the late Ira and Martha Queen Spry. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Pinkerton Spry, brothers, Warnie Spry, Garland Spry, Leo Spry, sisters, Cleo Spry Spence, Brookie Spry Rickman, Clarice Spry Mullins, Sadie Spry Napier, Rokie Spry, Sarah Spry Hall, Mary Spry Maynard and a brother-in-law Gilbert Dingess.
Reece was a member of the Beech Street Christian Church in Ashland and retired from J&L Equipment in Huntington, WV. He volunteered with Ashland Community Hospice and Lifesong Church Hope food pantry. He was a 32 degree Mason with the Grand Lodge of West Virginia, founding 50 year member of Whites Creek Lodge #60, a member of the Shriners and served proudly with the US Army during the Korean War. He was always raising money for Veteran Affairs and Veterans organizations.
Survivors include daughters Sherrill (Dan)Spreacker, Lisa Starnes, Nina Cheri Hunt, Bettina Jean Stumbo, Rhonda (Jeff) Gannon, Robin (Stan) Burd, grandchildren Andrea (Joe) Porter, Craig (Norma) Spreacker, and their children, Daniel, Caitlin and Kinsley, Tianne (James) Newman, Amanda Pennington, Zachary Stumbo, Whitney (Anthony) Cornwell, Taylor (Heather) Stumbo, Joseph (Torie) Gannon, Garrett Burd, Heather (Steven) Conley, Katie Burd, Tyler (Molly) Barnett, Rikki (Kenny) Keaton, sisters Irene Spry Dingess, Jean Spry (Bill) Robertson, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and his church family.
Funeral service will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Chaplain Dan Spreacker. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova, WV.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8pm and Tuesday from 11:00am till service time at the funeral home.
