Tribute

Robert (Bob) McKnight, finished the final race of his life Saturday morning, February 17, 2024 at Kings Daughters Medical Center surrounded by his beloved family. Bob was the son of Billy Robert McKnight & Barbara McKnight Caudill of Catlettsburg, KY. He is preceded in death by his Father, Billy Robert McKnight, his step-father, George Caudill, and his nephew, Blake Lenarz. He is survived by his devoted, loving mother, Barbara Caudill as well as his two sisters, Pamela Howard (Timothy) & Gidget Cordial (Jeff Franklin), nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. Bob graduated Boyd County High School in 1972 and then attended the University of Kentucky. Bob started his career as a jockey in 1977 which developed into his lifetime love of thoroughbreds. He spent his early years riding in New York at Aqueduct & Belmont Park, in New Jersey at The Meadowlands, and going on to travel extensively, racing as far away as Jamaica. Bob eventually came to work the racetracks closer to home such as Churchill, Keeneland, Turfway, River Downs, & Beulah Park, which allowed his family to enjoy getting to watch him ride. Bob was no stranger to the Winner's Circle, he had hundreds of wins throughout a career that spanned over four decades. After he retired as an active jockey, he continued to be involved in all other facets of thoroughbred racing. Bob assisted with training, exercising, and caring for race horses. Bob's other passions included cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He especially enjoyed watching the games with his mom. Bob was a member of the Elks club, BPOE #350. He will be greatly missed by his family & friends. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.
