On August 31, 2017, Ruth Juanita Preston Hagaman entered into the joy of her Lord and Savior. She was born March 18, 1922, in Lawrence County, KY, to James Herbert Preston and Delta Cora Moore Preston of George's Creek, KY. Growing up, she was involved in her family farm activities and 4H Club achievements winning prizes for her sewing skill. She graduated from Louisa High School, Louisa, KY, in 1942, where she was the president of the Home Economics Club, and from the Ashland School of Commerce. She worked at Armco Steel Company, Ashland, KY, during World War II and as the assistant to the librarian at Paul G. Blazer High School, Ashland, KY, 1963 -1975. Juanita spent her life making others happy while excelling in cooking, sharing, gardening, sewing, and especially homemaking for her family. Many friends in Ashland have been the recipients of her care and concern for others. She had strong feelings about family and community welfare contributing to each in her special ways. Juanita was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, the FUMC Women's Society of Christian Service, and the Paramount Women's Club. She energetically served Friends of Hospice and King's Daughters Petals, and actively volunteered for the annual Cancer Drive and Heart Drive in Ashland, KY. She was very proud to be a charter member of the Southern Hills Garden Club in Ashland winning ribbons at local and state flower shows and contributing to monthly meeting agendas. Mrs. Hagaman married John James Hagaman March 20, 1943, in Ashland, KY, and enjoyed a happy fifty-four-years long marriage. They had three children: Susan Lynn (Dr. Charles W. Coffey) of Brentwood, TN; John Phillip (Deborah) of Prescott, AZ; and Steven Reed (Linda) of Black Mountain, NC.
