Tribute

Sally Powell Hermansdorfer, 88, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 2021 at Trinity Station in Flatwoods. Sally was born January 2, 1933 in Huntington, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Douglas and Virginia Oxley Powell. In addition to her parents, her husband H. David Hermansdorfer and her brother Raymond Douglas Powell also preceded her in death.
She met her late husband David in high school. She and David were married in 1954 and moved to Massachusetts while he was serving in the Army. After serving in the military, she and David moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where David attended law school. They settled in Ashland in 1959.
Sally was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland serving in many church circles, prayer groups and book clubs. She was involved with the Girl Scouts and with the construction of the YMCA’s new building.
Sally was a graduate of Huntington High School and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. She taught high school English Literature and earned a master’s degree in psychology.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Kathy Hermansdorfer of Ashland, sons John David Hermansdorfer and wife Pam and Mark Douglas Hermansdorfer and wife Ida all of Indialantic, FL, grandchildren Denver (Stephanie), Emily, Jason (Amanda), Michael (Lauren), Christine (Kyle), Derrick (Jennifer), Keelyn (Christopher), great grandchildren Ethan, Savannah, Lindsey, Sean, Jonah, Nathan, Brooklyn, Julian, Zeke, Remy, Emilia, Rosalie, Delessi, Marcus, Mitchell and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held 11:00am, Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, KY. Jennifer Johnson will officiate. Friends may gather one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00am.
A reception will follow services at the church.
