Sharlyn Sue Chaffin, 69, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Sue was born October 7, 1947, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of June Bright of Huntington, WV, and the late John Halley.

Sue was a member of the First Baptist Church, Russell and a retired Business Education teacher at Paul G. Blazer High School. She was a 1965 graduate of Huntington East High School, received her bachelor's degree from Marshall University and her Masters from Morehead State University. Sue was passionate about the FBLA and Economics America programs. She was a strong advocate for her students and her leadership had a lasting impact.

She loved traveling the world and especially to their second home in Myrtle Beach with her family.

In addition to her mother, Sue is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Tom Chaffin of Ashland; her daughters, Michelle Fultz and husband Jeremy of Lexington, Becky Brooks and husband Bryan of Lexington, and son, David Chaffin and wife Ashley of Ashland; brothers, John (Kathy) Halley of Sumter, SC, David (MonaRae) Halley of Huntington, WV; her grandchildren whom she adored, Andrew Fultz, Grant Chaffin, Hallie Fultz, Laura Grace Chaffin, Jackson Brooks, Gatlin Chaffin, Kennedy Brooks; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Ken Gowin and her cherished nephew Rev. Jay Holland. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30-12:30 at the funeral home.
