Sharon Kay Baer
September 30, 1941 ~ February 11, 2024 (age 82) 82 Years Old
On Sunday, February 11, 2024, this world lost a beautiful, generous, kind-hearted, feisty soul with the passing of Sharon Kay Hobson Baer. Sharon was born September 30, 1941 in Ashland, Kentucky, where she resided the entirety of her life. After graduating from Ashland High School, she married, raised her 2 children and then worked in area restaurants. She retired in order to care for her family members and bake hundreds of her famous carrot cakes. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Thelma Williams Hobson, brothers Gary Hobson and Bennie Hobson and her former husband Donald L. "Don" Baer with whom she maintained a close, loving relationship until his passing in 2016. Left to mourn her warm and lively spirit: her loving and devoted children, son Donald R. "Donnie" Baer of Ashland, daughter Sherri L. Baer (Derek Winebrenner) of Hilton Head, SC; "the most precious grandchild that ever existed" Madison Baer Winebrenner; two wonderful step-grandsons Max Winebrenner and Alex Winebrenner (Alyssa) and sweet step-great grandson, Elijah; her loyal pets Copper and Charlie; special friends too numerous to mention (but you know who you are). Even though Sharon finally succumbed to the disease she feared above all others, dementia never destroyed her brilliant smile, her sassy nature or her joy of seeing family, friends, neighbors and her caregivers. Her infectious appreciation of fresh air and sunshine, all things bright and colorful, children, music and dancing and her beloved pets endured until the very end. Sharon's one goal in this life was to make sure that we knew we were loved. She succeeded. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at STEEN FUNERAL HOME-13th STREET CHAPEL at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM. The family is most grateful for the incredible generosity of friends who selflessly provided all aspects of care and support in addition to the undeniably impressive team at Hospice. We kindly ask that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to Community Hospice of Ashland in memory of Sharon. Online condolences may be made to www.steenfuneralhome.com
