Stephen Kipling Sweeney died peacefully on March 28, 2020 at King’s Daughters Medical Center with family at his side.

The son of the late Lee Sweeney and Sue Kendrick, he was born on February 6, 1941 at Praise, Ky. He was preceeded in death by his sister, Clara Lee Smith, and is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Bench Sweeney, and his sister, Marion Hidalgo of West Union, Ohio, along with several beloved nieces and nephews. He spent his boyhood days in Elkhorn City, KY. , attended high school in Chesapeake, Ohio, graduated from Mt. Vernon Academy in Mt. Vernon Ohio, then attended Columbia Union College in Tecoma Park Maryland. Steve was an electronics technician for GTE, and he and his wife owned and operated the Central City antique mall in Huntington, WV.

He was a faithful member of the Ashland Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served in several capacities through the years, and was a proud member of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Steve was a very memorable man with a variety of interests - A founding member of the Ashland Table Tennis Club, the Ohio Valley Poultry Assoc., the Old Central City Antiques Assoc., and the Eastern Kentucky Bird Club, among others. He was an avid reader, bird-watcher, and lover of all God's nature, and maintained a sense of adventure throughout his 79 years. Two of his favorite Bible verses were 1Thess. 4:13-18 and lsaiah 65:22.

He had left his remains to Marshall University Medical School, but due to present circumstances, that was not possible. He will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held once the world returns to normal.
