Dr. Walter Randolph (Randy) Lyons, Jr., 65, died January 9th, 2021 in Ashland, KY.
He was born August 12th, 1955, in Ashland, KY., to his parents Walter and Jessie (Carty) Lyons. His father has preceded him in death.
Randy has left behind his loving wife Sandra Lyons, along with his two children who he adored, Amber Leigh Lyons and Walter Kewin Lyons, four stepchildren Marvin “Russell” Marney Jr., Angela Carios, Rachel Trimble, and Marie Trimble, and two grandsons Kobe Lyons and Walter Benjamin Lyons. Randy is also leaving his three siblings whom he was very close with, Christie K. Commella and her husband, Sam, Richard K. Lyons and his wife, Susan, and Robin L. Ison. He also had one niece and two nephews.
Randy graduated Boyd County High School in 1973. He then went on to Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in 1977. Randy completed his Masters from Marshall University in 1985. He was a successful Chemist for decades before finding his true passion in teaching. Randy graduated with his Doctorate of Science in 2013. He continued teaching until retiring from Brevard Public Schools in 2018. His achievements ranged from patents to Educational Leader and Mentor to US Physics Team and so much more. Randy was also a member of the American Legion.
Randy enjoyed riding horses, along with playing the guitar. Although he resided in many other places, such as Florida and Texas, Ashland was always his home. He will be missed by many.
Services will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel. Pastor Joey Kennedy will officiate.
Visitation will begin prior to services from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00. Burial will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
