Tribute

William Joseph Hoyer, 72, of Huntington, WV passed away at Kings Daughters’ Medical Center on January 2, 2021. He was born on December 31, 1948 in Louisville, Ky to the late Frances Joseph and Viola Gagel Hoyer.

He was a retired mechanic at CSX Railroad and a Vietnam Veteran who served proudly in the U S Army.

Bill is survived by his sister, Gayle Cook Loween and her husband, David, of Louisville and Clarkson, Ky. He enjoyed sharing war stories with his nephews, Joseph Cook (Lisa Tetley) and Grant Cook (Jennifer). He literally knew the names of every battle, every leader and every type of gun used during the squirmish!

Bill cherished his role as friend to Amanda Blake and her son, Roman Williams. He was totally devoted to his 4-legged best friend, Jaxx, and religiously walked with him daily. They had many interesting conversations in his easy chair!

There will be no public visitation or service at this time. Cremation has been decided and Bill will be laid to rest with his parents in Louisville. Donations can be sent to The Elks where he was fondly known as “Buffalo”. They can be mailed to Huntington WV #313, P.O. Box 1216, Huntington, WVa 25714-1216. Please consider planting a tree in his honor since he loved working in the soil.
