Susanne Poage Hale

Susanne P.  Hale, born December 1, 1919, daughter of the late Edwin Flye and Anne Quinn Poage of Ashland, Kentucky, died peacefully on July 4, 2014 in Southlake, Texas.  Raised in Ashland, Kentucky, she attended Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio and graduated in 1941 from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.  She was married to the late Bill E. Hale of South Pittsburg, Tennessee.  Susanne worked for the Worthington, Ohio public schools for 23 years, where she served as an administrative assistant, secretary to the Superintendent, and coordinator of teacher substitutes.  A long-term member, Deacon and Elder of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Women’s Association and the Woodrow Guild, and a Stephen Minister.  Also through the church she was for many years involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Red Cross bloodmobile, Interfaith Meals on Wheels, and a community food pantry.  Susanne treasured spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with cherished friends, gardening, music and nature.  She loved all of her dogs over the years, especially her best buddy, Kelsey, who was her constant companion in Texas. She is survived by her son, William E. Hale and wife Tracey of Southlake, Texas; her daughter, Anne Warfel and husband Robert of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Kate McCoach and husband Michael, William Warfel and wife Danielle; and great grandson Maximilian Hale McCoach.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Worthington Presbyterian Church or any of the community groups mentioned would be appreciated.  The family would like to give special thanks to Maya Miller, Shonda Turner and Janet Akinmolayan for the loving care that they gave to Susanne during her last year.
A private graveside service will be held 1:00pm Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Ashland Cemetery. Rev. Ann Pitman will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.
A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Tuesday, June 15, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Worthington, OH
