It's hard to believe that Uncle Fred's earthly race is finished, but those who know him, know that he indeed fought the good fight with faith and dignity. There are so many great memories of Uncle Fred - from the time I was a young child through my adult years now. I always knew that I was loved by Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary - I always felt welcomed in their home and in their lives. While visiting in the summer, I can remember when he would come home from the railroad and the clothes he would wear. When Uncle Fred told stories about the family, he shared them with pride and often humor. When he got tickled by a story, he had a unique quiet laugh, that I can still hear when I close my eyes. One of my favorite memories is sitting around playing chicken foot, with the bowl of candy. I can't recall a time when I traveled to Kentucky that we didn't go out to eat somewhere and when we went back to their house - there was always candy. I feel fortunate that I was able to be there for Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary's anniversary party and Uncle Fred's birthday celebration. Whenever I left their home, he would always say "Don't be a stranger... don't stay away too long... you're welcome any time". This was the kind hearted man that he was. Uncle Fred's life was indeed a tribute to his faith. He always spoke with truth and wisdom. He truly was a man of God and what a blessing his faith has been to others. I know this faith is what is sustaining Aunt Mary, Karen, Linda Rose and Kim now. My prayers and love are with all of you. My comfort is knowing that he and mom are having a wonderful reunion catching up on the past (almost) 5 years. You will always be in my heart and memories. I'll be seeing you again someday!! Sister Ann sent me a message of Fred's passing. Some of my earliest memories are of our years next door to the Keffers on Hampton Street. Although we moved away when I was 10 years old, some of my fondest memories are of our time next door to Fred, Mary and their girls - Karen, Linda and Kim...Fred was a gentle and humble man who found it easy to smile and was a steady father and husband. I think of the family often and hold them near to my heart. My prayers are with the family but there is joy in knowing that Fred is now home. With love, Harry M. (HM) Brown.

My Uncle Fred was More than just a man of integrity, a soldier and the accolades his State could bestow. He was a man who loved and made you feel loved. One time I needed a moral compass, he pointed me in the right direction with words of encouragement, yet got his point across. I always love him for being the man he was and the Uncle he will forever be. I will miss you and the stories you shared. Rest in God's arms and know His love. Though your family will miss you terribly, they have the comfort of knowing you've earned your reward. Good bye for now, Uncle Fred.
